<li>A candidate for admission to the MDS course (Master of Dental Surgery) must possess a recognized BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) degree awarded by an Indian university in regard to a recognized Dental College under Section 10(2) of the Dentists Act, 1948, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Dental Council of India, and they should have obtained permanent registration with the State Dental Council. Before being enrolled to the MDS Course at any Indian university, candidates without a recognized dental qualification for the aforementioned purpose need first get their credentials approved by the Dental Council of India.</li>
<li>Qualification for the aforementioned purpose should acquire prior clearance of his qualifications by the Dental Council of India before he may be accepted to any MDS Course in India.</li>
<li>Applicants holding a PG Diploma approved by the DCI with a length of 2 years (proposed) in a specific specialization are eligible for admission to MDS in the same specialty with a duration of 2 years. The two-year curriculum will follow the guidelines of the relevant university.</li>
<li>Provided, however, that in the case of a foreign national, the Dental Council of India may grant temporary registration for the duration of the postgraduate training restricted to the dental college/institution to which he is admitted for the time being exclusively for postgraduate studies on payment of the prescribed fee for registration; Provided, further temporary registration to such foreign national shall be subject to the condition that such person is duly registered as a dentist.</li>
