The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar is one of the apex healthcare institutes established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of the Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) to improve healthcare facilities in underserved areas and provide quality medical education in super-specialty disciplines in these areas.
The AIIMS, Bhubaneshwar, was announced on July 15, 2003, and the foundation was laid on July 15, 2003. The medical complex and residential area are spread over 100 acres. A 900-bed multi-specialty hospital with 43 departments makes up the hospital complex. The Academic Block, College of Nursing, and Central Library are all located in the Academic Area of the campus.
