Mahakaushal is a part of Central India and lies in the eastern reaches of Narmada River valley of Madhya Pradesh state. It is native region of Dravidian languages such as Gondi, Pardhan and Bharia. This region is also called as Gondwana by Gondi peoples. Mahakaushal was a part of Central province. Jabalpur is the largest city of Mahakaushal region.

Jabalpur (formerly Jubbulpore) is situated at 23°10’ N and 79°56’ E. It is the third-largest urban agglomeration in Madhya Pradesh. Jabalpur is an important Administrative, Educational, Industrial, and Business Centre of MP. The Madhya Pradesh High Court is situated in Jabalpur. It is generally accepted that the game of Snooker originated in Jabalpur. The city is known for its beautiful marble rocks on the river Maa Narmada at Bhedaghat, only 8 km from University Campus.

According to prevalent theory, Jabalpur was named after a sage Jabali. Jabalpur has a humid sub-tropical climate typical of north-Central India. Jabalpur is an important Tourist city with notable attraction of Hanumantal, Bada Jain Mandir, Dhuandhar falls, Madan Mahal, Chausta – Yogini and Marble rocks at Bhedaghat. Famous Tiger Reserves like Kanha-National Park, Bandhavgarh National Park and Pench National Park can be visited via Jabalpur.

Dumna airport of Jabalpur is well connected with major cities of the country. Jabalpur has headquarters of WCR (West-Central Railway). Jabalpur is connected by road to holy city of Varanasi, Damoh, Sagar, Nagpur, Bhopal, Jaipur, Raipur and Delhi. NH-30 connects it to Prayagraj & Lucknow while NH-34 connects it to Kanpur.
