California Lutheran University, which was established in 1959 and was designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution in 2016, is home to more than 2,513 undergraduate and 1,102 graduate students. More than 59 nations are represented by our students, who hold a diverse range of religious and spiritual beliefs.
Small classes of students who are open-minded about ideas, people, and religion and who want to develop as individuals are taught by our committed, competent teachers.
Everyone at Cal Lutheran is devoted to assisting each student in following their passions in order to find their purpose and, by doing so, impact their community and the world. This commitment extends both within and outside of the classroom.
A selective, all-encompassing university, California Lutheran University offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional professions. Students are guided by committed and competent faculty members as they follow their passion and find their purpose in an effort to develop personally.
Richard Pederson, a Norwegian immigrant who donated the ranch, helped form California Lutheran College in 1959. In September 1961, the institution welcomed 330 new students, and its inaugural Commencement was held in May 1964.
