Shree Jagannath Sanskrit University, founded in 1981, is the third of India's eighteen Sanskrit universities. Its current campus is located at Shree Vihar, Puri. On July 7, 1981, Prajnana Vachaspati Dr. Janaki Ballav Pattanaik, the then Chief Minister of Odisha and a strong supporter of Sanskrit learning and culture, lay the foundation stone for the University. According to its founders' hopes, the University has committed itself to the cause of restoring, maintaining, and spreading Sanskrit study and research via scientific examination of Indian Knowledge Systems. This is a teaching and research university.
