The Macquarie incident
In addition to generating graduates who are among the most sought-after professionals in the world, Macquarie University is renowned throughout the world for its leadership in important research subjects.
We have strived to create a different kind of university—one not constrained by ivory towers and sandstone walls—since our founding in 1964. Instead, we want to promote collaboration between students, academics, business, and society, urging everyone to go beyond their own ideas and make a difference.
distinctive, forward-thinking, and transformative
In 1964, Macquarie University was founded as a risky experiment in higher education. We strive for the remarkable by defying tradition and accepting different viewpoints because we were designed to break from convention and operate in tandem with industry.
We maintain our pioneering approach under the direction of our academics and researchers, from developing Wi-Fi with the CSIRO to boosting graduate employability through individualised degrees and degrees co-designed with business.
Our main campus at Macquarie Park is known as the Wallumattagal Campus in honour of the Aboriginal nation on which Macquarie University is located.
