Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University set sail on July 6, 2010, the day the Governor's consent was first published in the Kolkata Gazette. This University, which is slated to be located in Purulia, Bengal's westernmost district, is the culmination of a long-cherished dream of the people of Purulia, who had for years nurtured an innate desire to have their own center of excellence, styled and moulded in tune with its geographical location and demographic make-up. In order to encourage the progress and spread of information in many fields of study.
