The university and regulating body for all of the medical, dental, nursing, paramedical, ayurvedic, homoeopathic, unani, and yoga colleges in the state of Madhya Pradesh is called the Madhya Pradesh Ayurvigyan Vishwavidyalaya (Medical Science University).

Around 300 institutions make up the university, which enrols about 80000 students statewide each year.

In order to create universal standards of quality in academics and administration of teaching and learning of health sciences, Madhya Pradesh University supervises and controls the affiliated colleges. The University has been established in accordance with the act that the Madhya Pradeshi government has announced.
