The BC Roy Committee's recommendations led to the amalgamation of several defence medical institutions, and on May 1st, 1948, the institute was established. In order to supply the Indian Armed Forces with a consistent and sustainable intake of medical officers, the "Graduate Wing" of AFMC was created on 04 August 1962. The institute currently has a relationship with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and has MCI approval to offer undergraduate and different postgraduate medical programs.
