The Government of India established AIIMS, Deoghar. The municipal government handed away the 236.92 acres in April 2018. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the foundation stone in 2018. The AIIMS in Deoghar has been designated as a "Institute of National Importance."
In September 2019, the institute opened its doors to the first batch of 50 MBBS students, and outpatient department (OPD) services were begun in August 2021.
