The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare created the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal (AIIMS Bhopal), a medical research public university and Institute of National Importance, in Saket Nagar, Bhopal.
The announcement of AIIMS Bhopal was made in in 2003. It started operating from September 2012, and opened its first academic department, Community and Family medicine (CFM). Postgraduate courses began in 2017. In 2019, a BS Level 3 lab was established.
