About

The historically significant, student-friendly, and community-focused Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) is an institution of higher learning. The mission of AAMU is to serve as a teaching, research, and public service institution, including extension, while honouring its history as a historically black college and university (HBCU) and a traditional land-grant school founded in 1890. Dr. William Hooper Councill, a former slave who founded AAMU in 1875, is a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation with a strong dedication to academic excellence. The school was founded in downtown Huntsville, which is not far from the quiet, little campus that is located on "The Hill."

Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University offers more than 60 undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programmes and concentrations, a diverse international faculty, more than 50 student organizations, and a sizable alumni network made up of politicians, educators, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, authors, artists, and more, many of whom act as change agents on the local, national, and global stages.
