Northeastern Illinois University, founded in 1867, has a long history of educational innovation and prides itself on training teachers and administrators who make a difference in Chicago. The social makeup of its student body and the ethos of Northeastern are both significantly influenced by diversity. More over 7,000 students are enrolled at the university, and about 60% of them identify as African American, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American.
The University provides more than 40 undergraduate degree and certificate programmes and more than 50 graduate degree, certificate, licencing and endorsement programmes, with the Main Campus situated on 67 acres in a lovely residential area on Chicago's Northwest Side. There are further campuses of the university in the nearby city.
