The Dakota Territory saw the establishment of Dakota State University in 1881 as a school for teacher training. Dakota State is one of the few universities in the country that equips students with the technology they need to succeed in any career, despite the fact that we have subsequently changed our primary focus of teaching to the cyber world.
The Oceti Sakowin, an alliance of the Isanti, Ihanktunwan, and Titunwan, have their ancestral home where Dakota State University is situated. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Crow Creek Sioux Tribe, Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, Oglala Sioux Tribe, Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and Yankton Sioux Tribe currently represent these peoples.
Where Dakota State University is located in the traditional homeland of the Oceti Sakowin, a confederacy of the Isanti, Ihanktunwan, and Titunwan. These people are today represented by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Crow Creek Sioux Tribe, Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, Oglala Sioux Tribe, Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate, and Yankton Sioux Tribe.
