Southeast Kansas, a thriving and forward-thinking region, is where Ittsburg State University was established in 1903. PSU, which has a student body of close to 6,500, has all the advantages of a large university while offering individualized attention and small class sizes. Around 200 academic programs and focus areas, including undergraduate, graduate, EdS, and a doctorate in nursing, are available via the university's four colleges. Our students benefit from world-class instructors, a lively campus culture, and typical class sizes of only 18 students. Modern structures, such as The Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, the Kansas Technological Center, the Tyler Research Center, the Robert W. Plaster Center, and many more, are housed on a lovely 223-acre site.

The university has a strong sporting legacy that highlights student athletes and unites a community of devoted supporters. It is also home to the NCAA's only gorilla mascot.

Almost a thousand teaching members, staff members, students, graduate assistants, and researchers work at Pittsburg State on a part-time or full-time basis.

Southeast Kansas' Pittsburg, with a population of around 20,000 people, is about thirty miles from Joplin, Missouri, which has a metropolitan area with a population of about 60,000. Kansas City is 120 miles to the north, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 125 miles to the southwest, Wichita, Kansas, 160 miles to the west, and Springfield, Missouri, 95 miles to the east.
