The SIUE campus is located on 2,660 acres of lovely forest on the bluffs overlooking the natural splendor of the Mississippi River's lush bottomland and is only a short drive from downtown St.Louis. It is home to a varied student body of over 13,000 people. 

SIUE confers degrees in the arts, sciences, nursing, education, health, human behavior, business, and engineering at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Schools of Dental Medicine and Pharmacy confer doctorates in dental medicine (DMD) and pharmacy (PharmD). Doctoral programs in nursing practice and educational leadership are available. SIU Carbondale offers joint Ph.D. programs in history, environmental resources and policy, engineering science, and computer science.

SIUE is an NCAA Division I member of the Ohio Valley Conference, the Missouri Valley Conference, and the Mid-American Conference, with affiliate members in men's soccer and men's wrestling.
