About

Syracuse institution (abbreviated Syracuse, 'Cuse, or SU) is a private research institution located in Syracuse, New York. The Methodist Episcopal Church established the Genesee Wesleyan Seminary in Lima, New York, in 1831. After several years of deliberation regarding transferring the institution to Syracuse, the university was founded in 1870 as an autonomous entity apart from the college. The institution has been nonsectarian since 1920, while it retains a link with The United Methodist Church. The campus is located on one of the main hills in Syracuse's University Hill district, east and southeast of downtown. Its sprawling campus is home to an eclectic mix of architecture ranging from nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival structures to modern constructions.

SU is divided into 13 schools and colleges, with nationally recognized programs in information studies and library science, architecture, communications, business administration, inclusive education and wellness, sport management, public administration, engineering, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
