About

Stevens Institute of Technology is a private university that was established in 1870. It has 3,932 undergraduate students (fall 2021), a city setting, and a campus area of 55 acres. The academic schedule is semester-based. Stevens Institute of Technology is ranked #83 in National Universities in the Best Colleges 2022-2023 edition. The total cost of tuition and fees is $58,624.

Stevens Institute of Technology, a research-intensive institution recognized mostly for its engineering, science, and management degrees, emphasizes innovation and entrepreneurship. Incoming freshmen are expected to have the necessary equipment and can take advantage of special school discounts to purchase a laptop that can run the software tailored to their major.

Students may choose to pursue a cooperative education track, which is a five-year program that consists of alternate semesters of study and full-time, paid labor. Students in the Stevens Cooperative Education Program attend Stevens for the whole first and fifth years while paying for only four years.

Though Stevens is heavily focused on science and engineering, the university is divided into four schools or colleges, one of which is the College of Arts and Letters. Because the coursework emphasizes the intersection of the arts and humanities with science and technology, this college takes a unique approach to traditional liberal arts education.

There are about 100 clubs and organizations on campus in Hoboken, New Jersey, including roughly 15 fraternities and sororities. For four years, housing is guaranteed, and more than 60% of students choose to live on campus. The school is located along the Hudson River, and New York City may be reached by boat or subway. The NCAA Division III Middle Atlantic Conference, or MAC, is home to the Stevens Ducks. All student-athletes have a faculty mentor to help them balance sports and schoolwork through the school's Adopt-a-Team program.

Until 1971, the school was exclusively for male students; now, female students make up 30% of the student body. Alfred W. Fielding, one of the developers of the Bubble Wrap packaging material, and Frederick Winslow Taylor, widely regarded as the founder of scientific management, are both Stevens graduates.
