When Governors State University (GSU) was first established in 1969, it was intended to serve community college graduates pursuing baccalaureate degrees as an upper-division institution. In the five decades that have passed, GSU has developed into the sole regional, public, comprehensive university in the south suburbs of Chicago, enrolling around 4,600 students each year in 85 different bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and certificate programmes. GSU has a faculty and staff made up of about 1,000 people that are extremely varied and represent the community and students we serve. For students from all over the world and from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, GSU offers affordable, high-quality undergraduate and graduate programmes.
