The Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly passed an act on April 22, 1980, establishing Cluster University in order to serve the higher education needs of the East & West Godavari districts. It is an affiliated residential university that has legal control over Andhra Pradesh's East and West Godavari districts. Nannaya, the court poet of Rajah Rajah Narendra, who translated the Mahabharata from Sanskrit into Telugu in the eleventh century, is credited as being the first poet of Telugu culture (the Eastern Chalukya King). On the revered banks of the River Godavari, the University was built to realise the region's residents' long-held goal.
