About

While the North Bay Normal School served as the forerunner to Nipissing University in the 1900s, Nipissing University College was established as a Laurentian University associate in 1967.

In order to meet the unique needs of Northern Ontario, Nipissing University was founded in 1992 and granted its charter as an independent university. This dedication forms the foundation of Nipissing's strategic initiatives for the student experience, academic excellence, and research excellence.

With four separate nursing programmes, Nipissing is statistically the most nursing-intensive institution in Ontario and is proud to be known for its distinction in teacher education, the arts, science, and professional programmes.

Since Nipissing is predominantly an undergraduate university, its strategic focus on student performance and experience has resulted in consistently high rankings across the nation for student support, student experience, faculty, and residential. Students are immersed in a top-notch academic setting that is student-centered, built on individualised teaching strategies, cutting-edge learning techniques, and a developing research culture.

With an emphasis on students who might not otherwise participate in postsecondary education without interventions and assistance, Nipissing has prioritised access and equity for a long time. The number of full-time first-generation college students, students with disabilities, and Indigenous students enrolling at Nipissing University has all increased over the past few years.

Nipissing is dedicated to having an influence and contributing to the social, cultural, economic, and educational well-being of the communities it serves.
