St. Thomas institution (STU) is a Catholic private institution in Miami Gardens, Florida. At STU, you will be immersed in an atmosphere that is diverse, rich in heritage, and loaded with opportunity.

STU seeks to train its students to be leaders in all aspects of their lives, including professional, personal, and spiritual. The University has a strong Catholic heritage of academic quality, embracing new concepts and technology and conducting significant research programs across a wide range of fields.

The Universidad de Santo Tomas de Villanueva was created in 1946 in Havana, Cuba, by American Augustinians with aid from European Augustinians. When the Castro regime expelled the Augustinians from Cuba in 1961, several American Augustinians relocated to Miami and established Biscayne College. In 1988, the Archdiocese of Miami took over sponsorship of the University, making St. Thomas the sole Catholic Archdiocesan-sponsored university in the state of Florida. When the institution was granted university status, the name was changed to St. Thomas University to reflect its Cuban heritage.

STU offers 24 Undergraduate Majors, 21 Graduate Majors, 7 Doctoral Programs, and 1 Professional Program (Law) across four colleges: Gus Machado College of Business, College of Health Sciences & Technology, Biscayne College, and College of Law. STU features 25 varsity teams as part of a dynamic and competitive Athletics department.
