As a Baptist college, Brandon College was established in its current location on July 13, 1899. On June 5, 1967, John E. Robbins, who was the president at the time, officially incorporated it as a university. Brandon University Act is the enabling legislation. One of the several liberal arts and sciences universities in Canada with a large undergraduate student body is Brandon University.
The college belongs to the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate (CUSID), and U Sports. 60% of all classes at Brandon University have fewer than 20 students, and there are 11 students to every faculty member.
