During a working visit to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1995, Malaysia's Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad, and a group supported the creation of a university modelled after MIT. A contract establishing the Malaysia University of Science and Technology was signed in January 1997. (MUST). MIT, a famous university known for its instruction and research in cutting-edge science and technology, provided MUST with complete support and assistance during its early years.
The Malaysia University of Science and Technology imitates cutting-edge teaching and learning techniques that promote innovation, teamwork, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. These are traits that have been shown to produce entrepreneurial leadership in business and technology. In order to ensure depth of understanding and confidence in tackling real-world issues, MUST also fosters a research-driven culture across all disciplines of competence. The world-class model served as the catalyst for the MUST culture, which is alive, forward-thinking, and purposeful to our local environment.
