With the goal of providing educational excellence that met the highest international standards, Bond was founded in 1989.

This still guides the University's ethos decades later, along with our dedication to providing a learning environment that benefits and transforms each graduate. The inaugural cohort of 322 students attended Bond University's brand-new, cutting-edge campus on Queensland's Gold Coast on May 15, 1989.

The goal of Bond Institution, Australia's first private, not-for-profit university, was to provide a prestigious education of the best international standards, where students from all over the world would be supervised in small class groups by eminent academics and prominent business figures.

When those foundation students—the Class of 1989—graduated, they were immediately hired by Australia's most prosperous businesses, and their subsequent successes there solidified Bond's reputation for brilliance.

Bond University has developed into one of Australia's top tertiary institutions over the past 30 years. It is renowned for its expertise in fields like business, law, medicine, architecture, and data analytics as well as in fields like film and television, communication, sports management, and occupational therapy.

For 16 years running, Bond has been ranked as Australia's best university for students. Australian employers reported being more satisfied with Bond graduates than those from any other university in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Bond has outperformed all expectations, overcoming every obstacle with the unbridled tenacity and inventiveness that have defined its long and colourful history.
