About

Ahilyadevi Punyashlok Holkar Solapur University is a new state university in Maharashtra, founded on August 1, 2004. The establishment of a university in Solapur was a long-held ambition of the people of this region, and the district has had an emotional relationship to the university since its start. Solapur has a P. G. Center of Shivaji University, Kolhapur from 1984, prior to the foundation of the university. The center for P. G. Studies featured three postgraduate scientific departments situated in two buildings and a central Library building on its 37-acre site. Its P.G. center provided seven postgraduate courses.

Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University is presently in the outskirts of Solapur, some 10 kilometers from the main city, on the national highway NH-09 towards Pune. The closeness to the national highway allows for easy access. It is a source of tremendous pride that the university has achieved such rapid progress. On campus, nine new buildings are available for the School of Computational Sciences, School of Social Sciences, School of Earth Sciences, Central Instrumentation Centre, Girls' hostel with accommodation for 200 girls, Boys' hostel with accommodation for 100 boys, Rector's bungalow, University Guest House, and VIP Bungalow. The University works tirelessly to improve standards in teaching, research, extracurricular activities, and sports.

In recent years, the University has established new schools such as the School of Commerce and Management, the School of Languages and Literature, the School of Performing Arts and Fine Arts, the School of Allied Health Sciences, the School of Technology, the School of Life Sciences, and many new skill-based courses. Meanwhile, certain existing courses are being updated to strike the proper balance between theoretical and applied components in the curriculum. Bridge courses are created by schools in order to accommodate students from different faculties to mainstream courses. Each school has a strong research agenda and publishes often. The University is dedicated to students' overall development.

As a consequence, a number of students have won awards at state and national youth festivals, sports, and research activities. The University has routinely organized seminars, conferences, sports, and research activities at the state, interuniversity, and worldwide levels. At the expanded campus, the University has built sports facilities and a health facility. The construction of the new administrative and examination building has begun on around 500 acres of land provided by the state government close to the existing campus. In the new campus, an exquisite horse-riding monument of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi is also being installed.
