The Institute of Science in Mumbai, Elphinstone College in Mumbai, Sydenham College in Mumbai, and Secondary Training College in Mumbai serve as the constituent colleges for the Dr. Homi Bhabha State University, which the Maharashtra government founded as a cluster university. The University is a stand-alone organisation that awards degrees and has its own rules and regulations. According to the requirements of the Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, this is the first university of its sort to be created in the State of Maharashtra (RUSA). The creation of this University is anticipated to provide the State's higher education system a fresh boost. It will result in the best possible use of the resources available to the constituent colleges, give students a variety of flexible learning options, and support them with systems that are geared toward their needs. It will provide modern infrastructure that is pertinent to the field and offer undergraduate and graduate programmes in a variety of disciplines using a choice-based credit system (CBCS).
The CBCS will use a cafeteria method, allowing students to choose from a variety of courses in accordance with their preferences. Some of the courses offered by the constituent institutions may be taken by the students. The programmes will be adaptable and customer-driven. The constituent colleges' numerous events are open to the students to engage in.
