The National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (NIT Rourkela or NITR), originally the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela, was started in 1961 as a publicly sponsored engineering, science, and technology institution in Rourkela, Odisha, India.
It is one of India's 31 National Institutes of Technology, and the National Institutes of Technology Act of 2007 designated it as an Institute of National Importance. It is placed 16th among Indian engineering universities in the NIRF Rankings 2020.
