The National Institute of Technology (NIT) is a public research university Nagaland, an Institute of National Importance, is a technical higher education institute in Chumukedima (Dimapur), Nagaland, that was founded in 2009 and began operations in the academic year 2010. The Institute began under the guidance of the National Institute of Technology Silchar in Assam and operated for two years on the NIT Silchar campus.

On September 20, 2012, classes on the permanent campus began. With the restoration of existing RCC structures and the construction of a few pre-fabricated buildings, the infrastructure for class rooms, hostels, and dining blocks for Boys and Girls has been built. New classroom blocks, labs (Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Machines, Power Systems, and so on) and dormitories have been built using prefabricated structures.
