The National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh, was one of ten new NITs that were launched on August 18, 2010. To meet India's expanding demand for technological personnel, several new NITs were founded as centres of excellence in technical education. Until November 1, 2011, NIT Arunachal Pradesh operated under the tutelage of NIT Durgapur.
The NIT AP began operations in a rented building in Yupia, district Papumpare, as a temporary location. Its permanent home is being built in Jote, Papumpare region, surrounded by lovely green forest and mountains. The place is beautiful, and the surrounding area is excellent for a world-class academic setting.
