With an enrollment of 120 students and seven staff members, Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT) began operations in 1960 at Govt. S.V. Polytechnic. MACT relocated to the new campus's nearly built academic building in 1963.
Initially, a five-year degree programme in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering was established. The five-year Architecture (B. Arch) programme began in 1963. The Institute moved to its own building on the current campus in 1964. Two hostels, 1 and 2, opened in 1964 and 1965, respectively, and a post office opened in the same year. Library and lecture halls G1 through G9, as well as hostels 4 and 5, were completed in 1966. M.Tech program was started with 2 disciplines and expanded and now institute offers 29 courses.
The campus is 650 acres in size and is surrounded by a boundary wall and a ring road. The entire campus consists of administrative and academic buildings, a workshop, a library and community centre, student and staff housing, and other general amenities such as a post office, a shopping complex, a children's school, a dispensary, a 1000-seat auditorium, and a sports complex with a large open area.
