Dr. B R Ambedkar was an Indian nationalist who fought for the rights of The National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar was founded in 1987 as a Regional Engineering College and was upgraded to a National Institute of Technology (Deemed University) on October 17, 2002 by the Government of India. The Institute has been designated as a "Institute of National Importance" by the Indian government under the Parliamentary Act of 2007.
