The Government of Rajasthan made the historic decision to found the Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication in order to face the difficulties in the constantly diverse field of media and mass communication (HJU). The mission of the HJU, which was established by Act No. 11 of 2019 of the State Legislature, is to close the media education gap through teaching, training, and research in journalism, mass communication, and related subjects.
In honour of the proud son of Rajasthan, Shri Haridev Joshi (1921–1955), who left behind a great legacy of public service and national development, the institution bears his name. Shri Joshi began his career as an active journalist reporting from the state's tribal areas and went on to become the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. He is known as a freedom warrior, public servant, and exceptional statesman in Rajasthan. In addition, he held the governorships of West Bengal, Meghalaya, and Assam.
The HJU upholds the strict international standards for education and gives students the tools they need to succeed as researchers, scholars, and teachers. The institution offers a cutting-edge, imaginative, and interdisciplinary education. Along with transferring knowledge, the emphasis is on fostering technical proficiency and providing hands-on multi-media training in journalism and mass communication. In order for the media to serve as the fourth pillar of Indian democracy, it is imperative that the university's students have a thorough awareness of Indian society and the value of morality and ethics in public life.
By hosting seminars, talks, dialogues, workshops, and interactive sessions on language, law, human rights, the constitution, and citizen's rights as well as science-technology and society, the environment, climate change, gender studies, and fake news, we aim to expand education beyond the four walls of the classroom. The HJU aims to mould the next generation of media and communication experts into responsible, politically and socially conscious, and upstanding future media leaders of India.
The university is situated in Jaipur, the ancient capital of Rajasthan, which has wonderful surroundings.
