The Government of Uttar Pradesh founded Harcourt Butler Technical University Kanpur in 2016 with the goal of developing it into a top residential university that will serve as a centre of excellence for research and development in the fields of engineering, technology, basic and applied sciences, humanities, social science, management, and other professional programmes. The mission of HBTU is to advance higher education engineering studies, research, and innovation, to improve skill development through continuing education programmes, and to attain excellence in higher technical education.
The university offers M.C.A., full-time and part-time M.Tech. programmes in a variety of disciplines, along with thirteen undergraduate programmes in chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science & engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, information technology, leather technology, mechanical engineering, biochemical engineering, food technology, oil technology, paint technology, and plastic technology. The University plans to launch a number of programmes at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the near future in response to the current increasing need.
The university offers a supportive atmosphere for students' holistic development, allowing them to grow into well-rounded individuals with good communication skills, appropriate attitudes, aptitudes, and the ability to collaborate with others.
