In August 2008, Gautam Buddha University, which was founded by the Uttar Pradesh Act (9) of 2002, began its first academic year on its 511-acre campus in Greater Noida. The Government of Uttar Pradesh's agencies, the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA) and the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), have entirely sponsored the university. The University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and is accredited by the University Grants Commission in accordance with the UGC Act.
