By severing the former Bangalore University into three parts, the Karnataka government announced the creation of Bengaluru North University in its university gazette. Date of notification: 13 August 2015. The Kolar P.G. Center, Chikkaballapur District, C.V. Ramanagar, K.R. Puram, Mahadevpura, Pulikeshinagar, and Sarvagnanagar Legislative Constituencies of Bangalore Urban District, and Hosakote, Devanahalli, and Doddaballapur Legislative Constituencies of Bangalore Rural District are all included in Bengaluru North University's territorial jurisdiction.

Bengaluru North University (BNU) is a state university in Kolar, Karnataka, India, close to NH 75 in Tama Ka. Through the 2015 Karnataka State Universities(Amendment) Act, which divided Bangalore University into Bengaluru North University and Bengaluru Central University, the university was founded in 2017 by the Karnataka government. On September 21, 2017, the university was officially opened, and T.D. Kemparaju, a former Mangalore University registrar, was named vice chancellor.
