IIT Delhi served as the mentor for the Indian Institute of Technology Jammu, which opened on August 6, 2016. The first students arrived on campus at Paloura, Jammu.In 2018, IIT Jammu relocated its main operations to a 400-acre campus in Jagti, Nagrota.
The main campus's Phase 1 A, which spans 25 acres, is currently operating. Phases 1 B and 1 C are now being built. Paloura site is being turned into a high-end research institution, with PhD scholars residing there. The Institute's main campus is roughly 15 kilometres from the airport and is located on National Highway 44.
