On September 21, 2001, the Government of India enacted an Ordinance designating it as the nation's sixth Indian Institute of Technology and a "Institution of National Importance." The Institute offers Bachelor's Degree programmes in ten engineering and architecture disciplines, as well as Postgraduate Degree courses in 55 engineering, applied science, architecture, and planning fields. It also offers doctoral programs in different departments.
