One of the 23 IITs established as Centers of Excellence for training, research, and development in science, engineering, and technology in India is the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi.
Originally known as College of Engineering, the Institute was renamed "Indian Institute of Technology Delhi" in 1963 after being designated as an Institution of National Importance by the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act. After that, it received the designation of a Deemed University with the authority to establish its own academic standards, manage its own exams, and confer its own degrees.
Over 48000 people have earned degrees from IIT Delhi since it was founded in a variety of fields, including engineering, physical sciences, management, and humanities & social sciences. Nearly 5070 of them earned doctorates. Over 15738 students received B.Tech. degrees during graduation. The remainder earned master's degrees in business administration, engineering, or a related field. These former students are currently employed as entrepreneurs, business managers, scientists, and technicians. A number of graduates have left their original fields and are now working in NGOs, administrative services, or active politics. They have so made a substantial contribution to the development of this country as well as to global industrialisation.
