IIT Gandhinagar was established in 2008 and is located on the banks of the river Sabarmati in Palaj, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. IITGN has been designated as India's first 5-star GRIHA LD (Green) campus for its efforts to reduce environmental impact. For assuring food safety and promoting healthy eating, the campus has been designated as India's first 5-star campus.
For its construction-related staff, the Institute adheres to the greatest safety standards. In this context, the IIT Council decided that other IITs should adopt IIT Gandhinagar's exceptional practises (labour welfare and community engagement).
