About

The history of Presidency University is distinct. It was one of the first institutions of higher education of the Western style in Asia. The Hindoo College was founded in 1817 by a group of intelligent Britons and Indians. This was taken over by the British government in 1855 as the College of the Bengal Presidency and included into the newly established Calcutta University in 1857.

Presidency College remained Bengal's premier institution of higher learning throughout the following century and beyond. Even though it was a Constituent College of Calcutta University, it maintained a tradition of research that was unmatched by other Indian universities. This added a distinct dimension to its undergraduate instruction.

Presidency University can reinvent its storied history and enduring qualities into a leading university of the future thanks to its formal formation in July 2010.
