From the 2008–09 academic year, Aliah University began its illustrious path with huge potential and many prospects. It is intended that through balancing tradition and modernity, this university would establish itself as a distinctive centre for higher education and research. It has been given the designation of a minority educational institution in accordance with Section 3 (3) of the Aliah University Act of 2007. The Government of West Bengal's Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education oversees Aliah University, an independent institution of higher learning. It is hoped that this university will play a crucial and pioneering role in the advancement of higher education for socially and educationally backward classes belonging to the Minorities, alongside individuals of people of any race, creed, caste, or class.
