TERI School of Advanced Studies was set up as a Trust by TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) - a not-for-profit, independent research institute recognized globally for its contribution to scientific and policy research in the realms of energy, environment, and sustainable development in 1998. In 1999, the TERI School of Advanced Studies was granted the ‘Deemed to be University’ status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and notified vide the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India, notification no. F.9/19/95-U-3, dated October 5, 1999. The objective of the TERI SAS is to build capacity around various themes of sustainable development adopting an inter-disciplinary approach and incorporating the most contemporary, research-based evidence into the curriculum. Since its inception, the TERI SAS has offered not just world-class education, but also an environment that enables its students to develop fresh perspective in their subject areas. Beyond the academic programmes, the deemed University is actively reaching out to school and college students as also to mid-career professionals to sensitize them towards the environment and sustainable development in a systemic, solutions-oriented manner. The deemed University started functioning from its ‘green campus’, located in Vasant Kunj, in 2008 and today offers a dozen Masters programmes and has nearly 200 PhD students enrolled. It has started work on developing a new campus at Hyderabad, Telangana in the south of India and hopes to start offering academic programmes from this campus .

ADMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Admission to the M Sc programmes is made on the basis of an online test and interview conducted by the Deemed University. Applications are invited from the candidates by advertising the programmes in some leading newspapers every year.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject with English at the 10+2 level. The candidate will be shortlisted based on their CAT/MAT/GMAT/CMAT/XAT results. Candidates who have not taken the preceding tests may take the TERI SAS common entry test. Candidates having more than two years of relevant work experience may be excused from the aforementioned requirements at the discretion of the selection committee.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • The following individuals are eligible to apply for admission to the Ph.D. program, subject to the requirements specified in these Regulations:
  • 2 years M.Sc/MA or M Phil in a related discipline, or equivalent. In extreme situations, one-year PG degrees may be approved.
  • In extraordinary instances, the admission committee may consider an application from an applicant with a B.Tech in a related subject or equivalent. Only those with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 on a 10-point scale or 75% marks should apply in this category. It should be emphasized that inclusion under this category would be examined by an assessment committee and would necessitate extensive pre-Ph.D course work.
  • Candidates (sponsored/unsponsored) applying on a part-time basis must have a minimum of three years of work experience in organizations authorized by the Department Research Committee.
  • Additional qualifications for sponsored full-time applicants a. Sponsored candidates must submit a sponsoring certificate from their employers on proper letterhead stating that for the period of his/her studies in the program, the candidate will be treated as on duty with regular salary and allowances and that he/she will be fully relieved for the period of study for pursuing his/her study and the fee will be paid by the sponsoring organization. b. Candidates seeking admission to Ph.D. programs on the basis of study leave must produce documentation of being granted study leave for a minimum of three years at the time of interview.
  • Part-time (sponsored and unsponsored) applicants must meet additional prerequisites.

Non-sponsored candidates must present a 'No Objection Certificate' from their employer at the time of interview, indicating that the candidate is authorized to pursue studies part-time and that:

    • His/her official responsibilities allow him/her to dedicate considerable time to study.
    • Access to research facilities will be offered to the candidate; 3/5/2019 10
