People's collective efforts have helped the nation become one of the most technologically advanced nations. However, a sizable portion of rural India still faces survival challenges as a result of inadequate infrastructure for education and skill development. The fact that more than 80% of the nation's population resides in rural areas. In order to promote radical changes in education, the Radhakrishan Body, India's first education commission, stressed the necessity of rural universities in 1949. Therefore, on February 12, 1991, the Government of Madhya Pradesh through legislative action passed an Act (9, 1991) establishing the Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya, a rural university that had been conceptualised and established at Chitrakoot by the great Visionary Padma Vibhushan Nana Ji Deshmukh.
The University is situated in Chitrakoot, Satna, M.P., on the banks of the revered Mandakini River, close to Sphatikshila. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded the university a "A" rating in its first cycle of accreditation in 2015.
The university's mandate requires it to create human resources for rural residents' economic and social development as well as to create and spread rural technologies. The university's overarching goal is to create human resources to support rural community socio-economic development initiatives and to raise the quality of life for the underprivileged via multifaceted, purposeful education.
The University's mission is to advance, promote, and impart information and skills to help the rural population build confidence and employ modern technology to meet new challenges.
The University's mission is to expand knowledge and skills needed to meet new problems, inspire confidence in the rural community, and employ modern developments in higher education to transform rural residents' social and spiritual lives.
The message is inscribed as "Padukas" within the University's crest. The hamlet represents the universe in tiny, according to the university's motto. It also emphasises problem-solving action research and the transfer of workable technology to address issues faced by the majority of rural Americans.
There are five faculties, 15 departments, and two separate organisations (the Community College and the Distance Education Center) inside them to help the university carry out its mission. Through the use of cutting-edge teaching and learning technologies, an interdisciplinary approach has been taken to promote the multifaceted development of the rural sector. The university offers comprehensive higher education courses in the fields of agricultural and animal sciences up to the PhD level.
Environment, remote sensing, GIS, agricultural engineering, food technology, information technology, management, education, languages, communication, fine arts, humanities, social sciences, and more are examples of applied sciences. The University has developed a significant number of Distance Education Centers across the state of Madhya Pradesh with the purpose of providing higher education for those who are unable to attend normal sessions owing to financial or other service obligations.
Through 30 Gramodaya Community Colleges spread across different regions of MP, the University has established the Community College Scheme to deliver skill-oriented courses at various levels, including Advanced Diploma, Diploma, and Certificate programmes. Under DDUK, universities are currently offering skill development courses in several disciplines. Following thorough consultation with all relevant parties, the university developed a number of skill development courses, which it then made accessible to community colleges for adoption in their programmes. Programs tailored to individual needs are also offered in accordance with local community need.
Academic policies can be effectively implemented using both top-down and bottom-up strategies. The University has already introduced a B.Voc. programme in nine streams based on recommendations from the National Skill Development Council. In addition, it has introduced a BSW programme, or a Bachelor of Social Work (Community Leadership), for employees of state government agencies who are responsible for implementing government programmes.
The first university in the state to use complete monitoring and thumb impression attendance is this one. To make the campus eco-friendly and lower its carbon footprint, significant efforts are being made. Although there is less paper used in the office, the goal is to go toward paperless e-government. Smart courses and virtual classes are maintained by every university faculty member for interactive instruction. The campus has a strong Wi-Fi network.
