Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University of Social Sciences was established by the Madhya Pradesh government pursuant to ACT No.2 of 2016, which was published in the Madhya Pradesh Gazette (Extraordinary) on January 13, 2016. The first social sciences university in the nation is Dr. B R Ambedkar University of Social Sciences (BRAUSS). For the socioeconomic advancement and academic excellence of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and other backward groups, the University is a unique example of how social sciences viewpoints and techniques can be integrated with scientific and technical improvement. The university aims to advance socioeconomic progress and educational excellence among underprivileged groups for their uplift and empowerment; and convergence of cutting-edge social science modules with new technologies for reducing and eliminating social ills, social disparities, and injustice; and establishing an egalitarian society.

By providing higher education, research, extension, and training in social sciences and related fields, such as Constitution & Democracy, national integration, democratic decentralisation, and local self-governance, the university supports the socioeconomic and educational development of underprivileged groups in society. Social & Educational Empowerment: Egalitarian Social Order, Secularism, Women's Empowerment & Social Emancipation, Religious & Social Harmony, Human Dignity, Family & Child Welfare, Quality Higher Education; Economic & Financial Empowerment: Among the Underprivileged Through Capacity Building & Entrepreneurship Development, Welfare Economics, and Policy Reforms; Law & Social Justice: Equal Status & Opportunities, Liberty of Thought, Expression, Belief, Faith & Land holdings and agrarian development, ecological harmony and the interconnection of rivers, agricultural technology and rural crafts, international understanding and foreign policy, and a scientific approach to nation-building are all aspects of the environment and agrarian development.

Mr. Excellence The Chancellor and Chair of the Governing Body of the University is Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Mangubhai C. Patel. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. D.K. Sharma, also serves as the President of the Academic and Executive Councils of the University. The Faculty Capacity Building Program's course director and director of research, extension, and training is Prof. D. K. Verma.
