The Haryana Government Act 20/2018 established the Maharshi Valmiki Sanskrit University, Mundri (Moundhara), Kaithal (Kapisthal), in the affluent state of Haryana. It is 8 kilometres east of Kaithal on the Kaithal, 130 kilometres from Chandigarh, 115 kilometres from Hisar, 175 kilometres from New Delhi's NCR, 30 kilometres from Pahowa, 25 kilometres from Kalayat, and 45 kilometres from Kurukshetra.

Dr. Shreyansh Dwivedi is the University's first vice chancellor. who committed to their duty in August 2018. According to him, Haryana's 70 Gurukuls and Sanskrit colleges are crucial for the preservation and advancement of the language. Universal study would be conducted experimentally and through a Sanskrit media in these Gurukulas and colleges. Vice Chancellor expressed his opinions, stating that the University would be backed by the nurturing Gurukul tradition of the Indian educational system. The Vice-Chancellor said that in order to create the greatest India, a modern and sentimental curriculum will be established for the university.
