The Gujarat State Government founded the Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University (BKNMU), a State University, on September 16, 2015, in Junagadh, Gujarat State, India, pursuant to Gujarat Act No. 23 of 2015.
Honorable previous Gujarat Chief Minister Shrimati Anandiben Patel planted the germ for the establishment of the new institution, which was conceptualised by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The institution is currently operational in the Government Polytechnic Building in Khadiya, which is only about 12 kilometres from the city of Junagadh. Districts in Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, and Devbhumi Dwarka fall under the purview of the university. Currently serving as the university's vice chancellor is Prof. (Dr.) Chetan Trivedi.

The university has three postgraduate departments, including English, Sociology, and Life Sciences, and all three will start in June 2018. History, Commerce, and Chemistry are these subjects. There are 48 post-graduate centers, 151 affiliated government, grant-in-aid, and privately funded colleges, and 65000 students are enrolled in these institutions at the diploma, undergrad, and graduate levels in a variety of faculties including the arts, business & management, science, law, and medicine.
