A Bihar State law established the Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU), which has its seat in Patna (BASU Act No. 15 of 2016, notified in the Bihar Gazette on 29 August 2016). The first Vice Chancellor was appointed on June 13, 2017, and the university officially started operating on that date. Bihar Veterinary College and Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology, two of the Bihar Agricultural University's constituent colleges in Patna, were transferred to the new university, which was created in 2018, and a new college for fisheries was founded. The following research institutes, stations, and substations are being transferred to BASU in order to broaden the scope of the university and improve outreach and research.
