Careers in CBI

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is central Government of India investigation agency established in 1963 and comes under Union Home Ministry. It is the official unit of Interpol in India. It takes up grim and serious crimes, corruption, money fraud, money laundering, crimes by mafia, underworld, and issues related to national security referred by Home ministry, Super court and various high courts.

Though it comes under home ministry, CBI is controlled by Ministry of Personnel headed by Union Minister, who reports to Prime Minister of India. CBI is headed by Director who is an IPS officer, with a rank of Commissioner of Police or Director General of Police (DGP).

CBI officers are recruited through promotions, inter departmental competitive exams, deputations from different Central Government cadre and from state Governments cadre. CBI also conducts direct recruitment for the post of Sub – Inspectors, Constables, and Lower Division Clerks through Staff Selection Commission (SSC). For Sub – Inspectors SSC conducts Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE), and based on the score, shortlisted candidates will be followed by medical examination and personal interview.

CBI officer could be posted anywhere in the country, includes travel, having erratic hours, work in remove and high risk territories.
