Footwear has evolved from a fashion statement to a necessity of health and comfort. Due to the rise in numerous foot-related illnesses, extensive research is being conducted in the orthopedic footwear industry.

Footwear design necessitates a combination of creative ability and ingenuity and has progressed significantly from traditional shoemakers cutting and stitching leather to specialized professionals working on high-tech laboratories experimenting with a diverse range of materials such as leather, plastic, canvas, jute, rubber, and even cloth.

Footwear designers create innovative designs of footwear while keeping in mind market demand as well as the needs of individual customers. They also create footwear collections for well-known shoe brands, create grade patterns based on which companies produce samples with computer-aided design (CAD) technology.

Students interested to build their career in Footwear technology can do their diploma, graduates, post graduate and PG diploma courses offered. After 10th grade students can join diploma in Footwear technology. 10 + 2 students with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry can take up Leather technology stream in their Engineering after clearing entrance tests.
